One of Our Favorite Photographers: Jennifer Imus

At Breezy, we are intentional about the spaces we choose to support growing families. One of those spaces is the beautiful studio where we host our Hypnobirthing® Childbirth Education and Spinning Babies® classes, Jennifer Imus Photography. We are excited to spotlight Jennifer and the meaningful work she does for families in our community.

Located in Old Town Tustin, Jennifer Imus Photography is a full-service portrait studio specializing in maternity, newborn, family, and senior photography. Jennifer founded her studio in 2009 with a heart for capturing the most important seasons of life in a way that feels effortless, thoughtful, and deeply personal.

Jennifer believes that photographs should be more than digital files. Her work is centered around creating heirloom artwork that families can enjoy in their homes for generations. From the moment clients book a session, they are guided through every step of the process, including wardrobe styling, professional hair and makeup, session planning, and the design of custom artwork for their home.

A Calm and Supportive Experience for Growing Families

What we love most about Jennifer’s approach is how aligned it is with the values we teach in hypnobirthing. Her sessions are designed to feel calm, unrushed, and supportive. This is especially meaningful for expecting and new parents who may already be navigating big transitions.

Jennifer is known for her gentle guidance, attention to detail, and ability to help families feel comfortable in front of the camera. Newborn sessions are baby-led and thoughtfully paced, allowing parents to relax and trust the process. She dedicates the session to your family without any time limits to make sure your newborn and family are comfortable. Maternity sessions celebrate the strength and beauty of pregnancy while honoring each family’s unique story.

Many families return to Jennifer year after year, documenting milestones from pregnancy to early childhood and beyond. Her studio has become a place where families not only create images, but also preserve memories that reflect connection, love, and presence.

We are grateful to teach in a space that so clearly honors families and the seasons they are in. Jennifer Imus Photography is a wonderful resource for the families we support, and we are proud to share her work with our community.

Interview with Jennifer Imus

Below are a few questions we asked Jennifer to help our families get to know her and her work a little better.

What inspired you to start Jennifer Imus Photography and focus on maternity, newborn, and family portraits?

When I first opened Jennifer Imus Photography in 2009 here in Orange County, I photographed everything — maternity, newborns, families, and graduating seniors. But it didn’t take long for me to realize that maternity and newborn sessions required something entirely different.

They weren’t just photo sessions. They were deeply tender, vulnerable moments.

At the time, I had two young children of my own (one with a chronic illness) and I quickly recognized that I couldn’t offer the level of emotional support and presence expecting and new mothers truly deserved. So I made the difficult decision to table my motherhood photography and focus on families and seniors, while still holding onto the vision of what I wanted it to become.

Over the years, I planned for the day when I could transform my Tustin photography studio into the calm, supportive environment I knew mothers needed — a space intentionally designed for maternity and newborn photography.

Now, as an empty nester, I understand more deeply than ever how quickly these seasons disappear. Pregnancy. Newborn nights. Toddler chaos. They feel long in the moment, but they are heartbreakingly short.

I’ve seen too many families in Orange County skip documenting this time or settle for rushed, stressful experiences that didn’t reflect how meaningful this chapter truly was. I always wanted to create something different — a space where mothers feel taken care of, where babies are honored at their own pace, and where the final result isn’t just digital files on a phone… but heirloom artwork displayed in the home.

Maternity, newborn, and family portraits aren’t just sessions to me.

They’re legacy work.

These are the images your children will hold onto one day.

How do you create a calm and supportive environment for parents who may feel nervous or overwhelmed during a photo session?

Honestly, most parents walk into my studio feeling a little unsure.

They’re worried:
“What if my baby doesn’t sleep?”
“What if my toddler doesn’t cooperate?”
“What if I don’t feel put together?”

That’s why the entire experience at Jennifer Imus Photography is designed to remove pressure.

My newborn sessions are completely baby-led. If baby needs to eat, we stop. If baby needs to be held, we pause. There’s no clock-watching energy and no strict time limit. We move at your baby’s pace.

The studio itself in Tustin is intentionally calm — warm, neutral, and quiet. Parents can sit, breathe, and simply be present while I gently guide everything.

After almost 16 years as a photographer, I can confidently say: your baby doesn’t have to “perform.” Real connection is always more important than perfection.

My job is to carry the emotional weight of the session so parents don’t have to.

What makes your full-service experience different from a traditional photography session?

Most traditional sessions are: show up, take pictures, download files.

My full-service maternity and newborn photography experience is different. It’s simple: just show up — and we handle the rest.

Every session includes:

  • Professional hair and makeup

  • Access to a curated studio wardrobe for moms and babies

  • Pre-session wardrobe planning

  • A guided ordering appointment

  • Museum-quality printed artwork and custom framing

Parents don’t have to shop for outfits, figure out printing, or stress about what to do with their images afterward.

We don’t just deliver digital files. We design finished artwork for your walls and heirloom albums for your family.

It’s a high-touch experience, but it’s also deeply practical. New parents are exhausted. They don’t need one more thing on their to-do list.

What advice would you give expecting parents who are considering maternity or newborn photos but are unsure if the timing is right?

If you’re waiting to feel “ready,” you might miss it.
There is no perfect time. You might not feel fully rested. Your home might not be perfectly organized. Your body might feel different than it ever has before.

And that’s exactly why this season deserves to be documented.

For maternity portraits, I typically recommend scheduling between 28–34 weeks, when you’re showing beautifully but still comfortable.

For newborn photography, ideally within the first 1–3 weeks — but truly, any time in the first few months is meaningful.

The biggest regret I hear from mothers isn’t that they took the photos.

It’s that they didn’t.

You will never look back and wish you had fewer images of this time.

Why do you believe printed artwork and heirloom images are so important for families?

Because digital files disappear into the scroll.

Printed artwork lives in your home.

Your children see themselves on the walls every single day. They grow up seeing that they are valued, celebrated, and part of a story.

Research shows that children who grow up in homes with displayed family photos often develop a stronger sense of identity and belonging. But even beyond research, there’s something deeply grounding about seeing your family preserved in tangible form.

Technology changes. Hard drives fail. Platforms disappear.

A framed portrait on your wall or an album on your coffee table becomes part of your family’s history.

I don’t believe photography is meant to live on a screen.

I believe it’s meant to live in your home.
